Choose Your Method
How would you like to prepare your rice?
🛒 Where to buy
Look for 쌀가루 (Rice Flour) in the baking or grain aisle at Korean grocery stores like H-Mart, Lotte Plaza, or any Korean market. Choose 백미가루 (white rice flour) — finely milled, not sweet rice flour (찹쌀가루). A 500g bag costs around $3–5.
Rice flour 백미가루 from Korean market
2 tbsp
Plain yogurt unsweetened
1 tbsp
Raw honey
1 tsp
Turmeric powder optional — brightening boost
¼ tsp
1
Measure the flour
Scoop 2 tablespoons of store-bought rice flour into a small bowl. The texture should be fine and smooth — if it feels gritty, sift it once.
2
Add yogurt & honey
Add yogurt first, then drizzle in honey. Mix thoroughly with a spatula until you get a smooth, paste-like consistency. Add turmeric now if using.
3
Adjust consistency
The paste should spread easily without dripping. If too thick, add a few drops of water or milk. If too runny, add a pinch more rice flour.
Pro tip: Store-bought rice flour blends more evenly and is especially great for beginners. It has a longer shelf life too — keep the bag sealed in a cool, dry place.
✦ Why grind at home?
Freshly ground rice retains more live nutrients — the oils, B vitamins, and enzymes degrade over time once milled. Use plain long-grain or short-grain white rice (Korean 백미 is ideal).
Raw white rice Korean 백미 preferred
3 tbsp
Plain yogurt unsweetened
1 tbsp
Raw honey
1 tsp
Turmeric powder optional
¼ tsp
1
Rinse & dry the rice
Rinse 3 tbsp of raw white rice under cold water. Spread it on a clean towel and let it air-dry for 30 minutes (or pat very dry). Grinding wet rice clogs the blender.
2
Blend to a fine powder
Use a dry blender, coffee grinder, or food processor. Grind in 10-second bursts, shaking between rounds, until the texture is fine and powdery — about 30–45 seconds total. Sift if needed.
3
Mix the mask
Measure out 2 tablespoons of the freshly ground powder. Add yogurt and honey, then mix until smooth. Use immediately for best potency — ground rice oxidizes within a few hours.
4
Optional: make rice water too
While rinsing the rice, collect the second rinse water in a small bowl. Apply this “rice water toner” to your face with a cotton pad before the mask — it adds an extra brightening layer.
Storage tip: Grind a larger batch and freeze extra powder in an ice cube tray — pop one cube out each time you need a fresh mask.
1
Cleanse your face
Wash your face with your regular cleanser. Leave skin slightly damp — the moisture helps the mask spread evenly and absorb better.
2
Apply the mask
Using clean fingertips or a brush, spread the paste evenly over your face, avoiding the eye and lip area. Aim for an even layer about 2–3mm thick.
3
Wait 15–20 minutes
Relax while the mask works. If your skin feels tight before 15 minutes, rinse earlier. Sensitive skin: start with 10 minutes for your first use.
4
Rinse & finish
Massage gently in circular motions with lukewarm water — this doubles as light exfoliation. Finish with cold water to close pores. Follow with toner and moisturizer.
💧
Dry skin
Double the honey + add 5 drops of avocado or rosehip oil
🍋
Oily skin
Add ½ tsp lemon juice + increase yogurt to 2 tbsp
🌿
Sensitive skin
Skip turmeric, replace yogurt with aloe vera gel
Frequency
1–2 times per week is ideal. More than that can over-exfoliate.
Patch test
Always test on your inner wrist first — wait 24 hrs before applying to face.
Turmeric warning
May temporarily stain light skin & clothing. Rinse thoroughly after use.
Shelf life
Make fresh each use. Mixed paste should not be stored overnight.
